Edale is a beautiful little village, right at the start of the Penine Way.
Named in the Doomsday Book in 1068, the village has been around for a long time. Overlooked by the Iron Age fort on MamTor, it was probably not regularly settled until Norman times.
There are regular trains, the cottage is about 40 minutes from Sheffield and Manchester. (Check out the map page).
A beautiful collection of photographs of Edale can be found here.
The wikipedia entry for Edale can be found here. It is kept pretty well updated.
(PS The Nag's Head - left - is just over the road. Good food, good beer, real fire, and the start of the Pennine Way) |
